Relying on the sun for energy is a bit more dependable than other energy sources. The sun will always be burning and using its energy can help to save the environment. Many people around the world have begun installing solar panels on their homes to harness this energy and help to provide a more environmentally friendly way of powering their homes. If you are considering solar panels, here are 8 things that you should carefully consider: Purchase – You will need to purchase solar panels to install. There are a number of places where you can find good, dependable solar…

Everyone these days is talking about renewable sources of energy and protecting the environment. If you are considering solar power as a means of helping to lower energy usage, there are a few things that you should consider. Solar power offers major advantages and understanding these advantages will help you to know just how much of an impact your contribution will make. The first advantage of solar power is that it costs nothing. Solar power is completely free. As long as the sun hangs around, there will always be solar power. Of course, putting up solar panels will come at…

I can’t wait to have solar panels installed on my roof. When I think of electricity, the continuous rising price of it and the traditional, sometimes really dirty way it’s being produced I feel guilty when I turn on the lights. But when I think of the possibility of creating my own electricity, using the sun’s power, I just know it’s the right thing to do. Electricity and gas prices are on the rise. In the UK, although prices are usually (hum) adjusted once a year, the 6 big energy companies already increased their tariffs twice this year, pushing the…

As technology advances, it is becoming increasingly unnecessary to burn fossil fuels in order to produce usable energy. There are now many alternative and environmentally friendlier forms of energy available to us, and choosing to utilise them not only reduces our carbon footprint but also provides us with a sustainable energy source that will be around for years to come. The importance of solar power In a mere hour, the earth’s surface receives enough energy to supply the entire population for a whole year. We can therefore meet all of our energy requirements by harnessing this energy using solar photovoltaic…

When one thinks of Belgium three things immediately spring to mind: alcoholic monks, acne and ethnic strife. Wait, that’s not quite right. What I mean to say is that when one thinks of Belgium three things immediately spring to mind: fine Trappist beers, gourmet chocolates and a thriving multiculturalism. It’s funny how that came out on my first try. I must have momentarily become some kind of stereotyping, Daily Mail-reading, grumpy old cynic. Anyway, one thing that this boring little non-country, excuse me, this fascinating microcosm of Western Europe can add to its wall of fame is that it is now…

Remember the article a few months ago about the Globama Campaign? If not, the campaign was an idea to get the White House to go solar; more specifically, solar company Sungevity offered to install a rooftop solar panel system on the President’s infamous home for free. It would seem all that campaigning and petitioning finally paid off because the White House is officially announcing plans to go solar! I’m not sure if they took Sungevity’s offer specifically, but what I do know is the solar panels will be installed above the White House’s living quarters, by spring 2011. The panels…

While oil spill news continues to look bleak, the solar industry is on the rise. Yesterday, US President Barack Obama announced the awarding of about $2 billion to two solar energy companies that agreed to build new solar power plants in the US. This means more renewable energy and thousands of new jobs will soon be available. The companies that earned the reward are Abengoa Solar and Abound Solar Manufacturing. Abengoa plans to build one of the largest solar plants in the world, in Arizona. The plant will be able to power up to 70,000 homes. As for Abound Solar…

Germany has talked about cutting back on solar energy support and withdrawing wind power supplied to Taiwan as of late. The question is: Why? According to a member of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s CDU party, their reasoning for cutting back on supporting the solar energy industry is because they don’t want the market to overheat. Germany is the world’s leading market for solar panels. They guarantee decent prices for solar panel owners who also sell electricity; however, over a 20 year period the subsidies would diminish and eventually be eliminated completely—if they fall under certain circumstances listed under a new law….

Solar panels have officially become mainstream: You’ll see them on homes, offices, schools, and so forth. It certainly would be great if everyone could have them. Unfortunately, they are quite unaffordable for most, with costs being around $20,000 or more and an increase in buildings insurance premiums to cover the installation. Everyone can’t afford that kind of investment, even through credit cards and even if it does pay for itself over time—I know I certainly can’t. The good news is, there is another way you can use solar power that is much cheaper and still as effective: Solar hot…

The Solar Road Panels will soon become a reality in the United States. The Department of Transportation has recently given the company Solar Roadways $100,000 to create a prototype of the project. This technology uses LED lights embedded in the roads to do just about anything – communicate with cars and warn them about detours ahead, detect wildlife on the highways, heat up the roads to melt ice and prevent icing and even charge electric cars while they are on the road, making long-distance trips for such cars possible. It is estimated that about 5 billion 1 square foot panels…
