Last week the United Nations declared a famine in two southern areas of Somalia.

According to aid workers 800,000 children could die due to the current hunger. Somalia’s Foreign minister warned that 3.5m are at risk of death by starvation.

All in all, around 10m people are in peril.

Islamist Militants have expelled workers from the UN’s World Food Program workers where possible. Nonetheless, the WFP is in the process of delivering 10 tons of food to the areas worst stricken by the drought and famine.

From the BBC:

Somalia is thought to be worst-hit by the crisis, but Ethiopia, Kenya and Djibouti have also been affected.
