Obama Administration Announces Plans for a Climate Service
In an effort to help businesses deal with climate change, the Obama administration announced plans for a new office specifically for handling climate change.
The first step that went into effect on Monday was the launching of a new website: Climate.gov. The website contains government resources on climate change and is available for businesses, academics, or the general public to use. Among the things that can be found on the site are: a global climate dashboard, a wealth of climate data, teaching resources, and a lot more.
According to Commerce Secretary, Gary Locke, the new Climate Service can help businesses on a good range of subjects. For example, the service could provide a business with data on wind patterns. The business could then use that data to determine how they may want to set up a wind powered system. Locke also stated:
“The bottom line is this: the better climate information that alternative energy companies have, the more profitable they can be, the more jobs they can create and the more they can actually meet the energy demands of our country and indeed, the world.”
The Climate Service will have 6 regional offices spread across the US. It will also bring together information and resources currently dispersed throughout the NOAA. The service itself is expected to be running before the 2011 fiscal year begins. Prior consultation is needed with Congress, however, but it does not seem likely that any new legislation will be needed to go ahead with the plans.

I really wish governments would focus on caring about the environment at large and not keep doubling down on climate change. The whole theory behind man-made climate change is showing distinct cracks (just see my web link) and people need to really read up on this.
