Ecotricity, the UK’s leading green energy company, today launches the first high performance electric sports car designed and built entirely in the UK. The car, called the “Nemesis”, is faster than a V12 Ferrari, doing 0-100 mph (160km) in 8.5 seconds. The electric sports car can reach 170mph (273km) per hour). Apart from being an electric sports car, which makes the Nemesis already pretty unique, the car will also be powered entirely by 100% green electricity made by Ecotricity’s UK network of 51 windmills. It runs for 100 to 150 miles (160 to 240km) between charges depending on driving style…

The British government’s 20 year plan highlights research, technology and sustainability, and is consumer-led, with the onus on the public to buy green, waste less and grow more. The idea is that if the buyers demand greener products, then British businesses will follow suit and produce them….

Methods include flying and driving less, saving on heating and electricity, buying less junk and wasting fewer resources. If you don’t live in the U.K. don’t let the good advice pass you by – make a New Year’s resolution to cut your emissions by…

Cities in warm, wet climates have generally been designed or fitted with structures that deal with heavy rainfall. This is a necessity for urban survival in climates that experience high levels of precipitation. I can remember wading through shin-deep waters in central Bangkok, popping in to a restaurant on Kao San Road for dinner and later emerging to find the streets clear from water. When in the city Belém do Pará in northern Brazil – which is basically smack dab in the Amazon rainforest – I recall torrential downpours which would run off into a network of well-constructed storm drains….
