The ‘greenest government ever’ is at it again. The UK’s coalition government headed by Prime Minister David Cameron and Deputy PM Nick Clegg has been cutting a lot of green programs and departments in the name of efficiency and belt-tightening. Now they are shelving one of their own environmental plans to regulate coal and gas power plants, a measure they claimed could be implemented upon taking office. From a report in the Guardian: Introducing a so-called “environmental performance standard” (EPS) for power companies would have restricted greenhouse gas emissions from coal and gas plants and encouraged companies wishing to build…

Former UK Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband thinks the new coalition government’s energy policies are a ‘huge disappointment’ to industry and to the country. Well, he would say that, wouldn’t he? He’s in the shadow cabinet and that’s sort of their job. And yet there are others, such as Finland and New Zealand, who are also vying for that coveted seat atop the eco-throne. So why is there so much disagreement about who occupies it? Here we’ll take…

Greenest Computer/Electronics Company? Not what you have been led to believe…

greenest-computerelectronics-company

Dell has recently banned the export of e-waste to developing countries. Apple successfully markets itself as an eco conscious computer company and its new MacBook seems to be living up to that image. Processor kingpin Sun Microsystems also joined the foray into Green computing and was receiving praise for its efforts way back in 2007. Surely, all this competition to be the Greenest is a good thing, but aside from self-praise and environmental image makeovers, which companies are actually delivering the goods on eco pledges? And moreover, which gadgets are Greenest? According to a poll by Green Factor, which ran…
