7 easy steps you can act on to a better environment
Far too many people think that there is nothing that they can do to help the environment. However with this type of attitude then no change can ever be done. Never underestimate the amount of change that one person can make in the world. After all, every journey begins with a single step. By using these seven simple tips you can help to make a difference and create a better World.
1) Less Water Usage
Water is a scarce resource. Especially in dry western states such as California there are a number of laws that are strictly enforced to prevent the water from being wasted. Every time you turn on the faucet or hose, the water needs to be pumped from somewhere. Often this is pumped by using electricity generated in coal burning factories. There are a number of ways you can work to save water. Take shorter showers, turn off the water when you’re brushing your teeth, and make sure that you don’t run the washing machine or dishwasher unless they are full.
2) Eat Healthy, Organic Food
The food industry creates a great deal of waste and damage to the environment with their use of pesticides and other chemicals. Not only does purchasing these foods support the industry that harms the environment, but it also puts a great deal of unhealthy chemicals in your body. Eating a healthy diet of organic foods such as the dukan diet menu supports the environment and your own health.
3) Purchase Recycled Products
There’s no getting around the fact that our landfills are getting too full. Purchase items made out of recycled materials. Promoting the reuse and recycling of products is a simple change that will help to keep items out of the landfills.
4) Use Your Own Shopping Bag
Plastic shopping bags are anything but environmentally friendly. Plastic does not disintegrate, and the number of plastic bags that are thrown away every year increase the amount of trash in a landfill. Bring your own cloth shopping bags to the store can help the environment, and in the process you can shop easily knowing that you don’t have to worry about your bags ripping if you overstuff them.
5) Gardening
Gardening is a win-win scenario for both the environment and you. Plants help to put more oxygen in the atmosphere and help to lower the amount of carbon dioxide. In addition to helping clean the atmosphere, they provide you with fresh vegetables, a delicious alternative to what you often find it stores.
6) Reduce Carbon Footprint
There’s a number of ways you can help to reduce your carbon footprint.
Get Rid of Bottled Water – bottled water is far more expensive than tap water. Also, bottled water often comes from the same source as your tap water, making it a more expensive method of getting the exact same thing.
Fortify Your Home – A lot of energy can be wasted in summer and winter trying to keep your house cool (or warm). Make sure your house seals well to prevent your home’s climate controls from running too hard.
Combine Errands – Why drive more than you have to? Carve out some time in the day to run all your errands. This way you don’t have to run the car more than necessary.
Get a New Microwave – Old microwaves are remarkably inefficient. Purchasing a new microwave can greatly reduce your carbon footprint.
7) Start a Green Community in Your Neighborhood
Although you can make a difference on your own, the more people that you can get to live a green life, the more people you can get to start living green, the more you can help to keep the environment clean. Start a green community by encouraging your neighbors to also make these small changes to their lifestyle.
