In light of BP’s repeated failures when it comes to dealing with the Gulf oil spill disaster, LogoMyWay.com has decided to hold a contest. They (like many other people) are of the mind that BP is really in need of a new logo. Their current logo you can check out here. Call me crazy, but that image does not seem fitting for a company responsible for the worst oil spill in US history. So, I’ll get to the point. The BP Logo Redesign Contest wants you to redesign BP’s logo in a creative way that will be a strong brand…

Well, it would seem the situation with the BP oil spill keeps getting better and better. It has just been announced by Attorney General Eric Holder that federal authorities will begin conducting criminal and civil investigations into the Gulf Cost Oil Spill. Holder did not specify the companies or individuals that may be targeted during the investigation, but he did state: “We will closely examine the actions of those involved in the spill. If we find evidence of illegal behavior, we will be extremely forceful in our response.” The announcement comes after a series of consecutive failures on BP’s part,…

Large spills in Nigeria are routine, and oil companies go largely unpunished for destroying the local environment as well as poisoning the human population. Some of the damage is due to actions by rebel groups and criminals, who attack pipelines, but rusty old pipes continually leak oil, while gas flares both waste a valuable natural resource as well as release toxic pollution and greenhouse gasses. In fact, more oil is spilled from the delta’s network of terminals, pipes, pumping stations and oil platforms every year than has been lost in the Gulf of Mexico, the site of a major ecological catastrophe…

The aftermath of tropical storm Agatha continues to cast much fear and worry over Central American citizens. To get an idea of how bad some of the damage is, simply take a look at the images with this article. That giant hole you see is actually a 200-foot deep sinkhole that swallowed a 3-story building. Here’s a run-down of the latest update: In Guatemala, 123 are dead and at least 90 more are missing. Landslides buried dozens of Indian communities and killed at least 60 people in Chimaltenango province. Three homes were destroyed and 11 people died in Parajbei, and…

European beavers, which have been wiped out in parts of Europe, are now apparently taking revenge on humanity for once being hunted to near extinction. Since European nations – namely Germany, Romania and the Netherlands – have reintroduced beavers into the wild and dedicated time and money to help their recovery, the furry aquatic rodents have been gnawing on the hand that feeds. Typical, thankless behavior. From an article in the London Times: The rodents, Castor fiber, have been munching through dykes and aggravating the floods currently sweeping along the River Oder in Central Europe. They are also holding up…

There was a time when I was an art student and lived in center city Philadelphia. If you’ve never been to Philadelphia, let me tell you that the traffic can be absolutely insane. Drivers will speed down the wrong way of a one-way street, they’ll cut other drivers off, traffic jams aren’t exactly uncommon, and if you are a pedestrian or cyclist, watch out! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve almost been run over because some driver was not paying attention to where they were going—this also includes buses. Needless to say the “city of brotherly love” isn’t…

The US is planning to build its first freshwater offshore wind farm and the location of choice is Lake Erie. Many of you may think: “Aren’t they already planning to build an offshore wind farm near Cape Cod?”—well, yes, they are and technically that one would have been the first. However, the Lake Erie Energy Development Corp recently signed a deal to buy 5 of GE’s 4-megawatt offshore wind turbines; while the Cape Cod project is expected to be much larger (468-megawatt) and will most likely take longer to complete. These turbines will be used for an offshore wind farm…
