Awesome Wild Clothes Created from Pieces of Nature!
Posted by Arkisaeo in Business, Weird & Wonderful, Wildlife & Flora, 14 Apr 2010
Here’s a little bit of fashion that’s both earthy and awesome: the Wild Clothes collection, by Beatrice Oettinger.
This German artist and costume designer takes items directly from nature to make these fabulous outfits. Twigs, leaves, berries, nuts, flowers and seeds are among the many things that make up her clothes, though you certainly wouldn’t know it at first glance! If you ever wanted to plan some fairytale or faerie-themed event, one of these gowns would be perfect for the occasion.
You can check out photos of the Wild Clothes collection here or visit the artist’s website here (in German).

Filipinos no longer counting the missing. You can help the victims.
Philippine President Benigno Aquino declared a state of emergency after a tropical typhoon Washi (Sendong) battered the country and reportedly claimed the lives of nearly 1,000 people. Regions most affected by the tropical storm were areas of the cities Cagayan de Oro and Iligan on Mindanao island. In a mere few hours the raging elements led to local rivers overflowing their banks and flash floods to cause water saturated soil to slip down slopes destroying everything in their path. Due to the almost zero...
Australian Scientists Discover an Interesting Use for Whale Waste
It would seem that scientists have come up with yet another reason to put a stop to whale hunting. Scientists from the Australian Antarctic Division have discovered that whale fecal matter is an effective, plant-friendly fertilizer for the ocean. The research suggests if whale populations are allowed to flourish, their waste could also help marine plant life to flourish. This would improve the ocean’s ability to absorb CO2. Most of their bodily waste comes from their consumption of krill and according...
Breaking News: Save the drama for Obama – developing countries stage boycott at Copenhagen climate conference
It has been expected from the start of the COP15 climate summit in Copenhagen that there would be a clash of interests between the developing world and the wealthy industrialized countries. The rich nations cause most of the pollution and the poor ones suffer the most from its effects. So they would like some recompense or – depending on which nation you ask – at least be able to industrialize and pollute their way into the developed countries club. As...
FedEx Announces Plans to Add All-Electric Trucks to US Fleet
The US Postal Service may have television commercials that boast about their flat rate shipping services, but FedEx has one-upped them in terms of sustainability. This June, FedEx will become the first US delivery service to introduce electric trucks to their fleet. Four EVs will be added to the Los Angeles fleet, though FedEx is no stranger to vehicles powered by alternative-energy sources—they already have 1,800 other such vehicles around the world. FedEx also plans to make electric charging stations available (eventually)....
Greener Cities and the Drivers Who Call Them Home
Urban Forestry is a growing trend in cities looking to actively clean their air and water while making streets aesthetically pleasing for pedestrians, bike riders, and drivers as well. While I could list any number of benefits trees in urban areas have been shown to produce, there was one advantage that I didn’t expect to see: safer, more eco friendly carsdriving through cities. Now, you might be wondering how trees help to slow drivers down and create an atmosphere where greener...
BBC Box to be recycled into soup kitchen in Africa
The BBC's Box project followed a functioning metal shipping container on its journey from port to port around the world for over one year. The Box's trip lasted 421 days and covered 51,654 miles (83,129 km) circling the globe twice, mostly by boat, but also using rail and road. Its contents included such treasures as tins of cat food, bathroom scales and bottles of Scotch whiskey destined for Shanghai. Following the voyages of a big red shipping container emblazoned with the...
Video: Mekong River drying up, but who or what is to blame?
One of the world's major rivers, the Mekong flows through China, Burma, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. It is now at a 50 year low in parts of Thailand and Laos, and looks more like a desert in some places. The Thai government has attributed some blame to China for the drying up of the Mekong, due to their use of hydroelectric power stations on the river. China denies this, claiming that the drought is a natural phenomenon. According to an article...
Captured Green Sea Turtles Released Back to the Wild
Wild animals are illegally captured and sold all too often anymore. Sometimes, they are kept alive and sold for pets, entertainment purposes, or who knows what other schemes. Other times, they are killed and sold for food, clothing, decorations, or medicinal purposes. And yet there are some rare occasions when the animals are discovered and saved before it’s too late; such an occasion happened earlier this week. Indonesian police found 71 endangered Green Sea Turtles after conducting a warehouse raid in...
Bottled violence
The United Nation's World Water Day, which was on Monday, didn't get as much press or attention as it deserved. What with the monumental passing of the healthcare reform bill in the United States, water had to take a back seat. But I'm attempting to revive World Water Day with this humble post, in some small attempt to give a little attention to the importance of the availability of clean water and sustainable water use. Please, PLEASE watch 'The Story of Bottled...
Learning the Ropes: The beauty of eco-friendly green gardens
There’s something about gardening that really brings out the true beauty of our lush planet, isn’t there? While many boast of gardens that deliver high yields or record-breaking vegetables, something throughout the process simply doesn’t seem right. Sure, being pleasantly surprised by getting a larger than life tomato is one thing, but when these ends are met through the use of harmful chemicals, what’s the point? Interest is spiking in the practice of maintaining an eco-friendly green garden, and those...
