Early this morning an earthquake hit Turkey in the mountainous region of the southeastern part of the country. At least 51 people were killed and 71 injured. The earthquake had a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale and hit at 4.32 a.m. local time.

In the hours following the earthquake, the region was struck by dozens of after shocks, some of which with a magnitude of up to 5.5 on the Richter scale.

Mehmet Ali Saglan, the Deputy governor of Elazig, the region that was hit by the earthquake, reports:

“According to the information that we got from the technical teams on the ground, there shouldn’t be anyone left in the rubble by now. But the search and rescue operations are continuing… Most of the houses that were demolished in the villages are not cement houses. … Other buildings, such as schools, were not destroyed… The Red Crescent is there. They are giving all kinds of help to the people. They are setting up tents. The weather is cloudy, 8 to 10 degrees Celsius (46 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit).

This is not the first time Turkey is struck by an earthquake of course. The region is periodically hit, sometimes with catastrophic consequences, like in 1999 when two earthquakes struck near Istanbul, killing more than 20.000 people.

Earthquakes in Padang, Indonesia, Haiti, Chile, Turkey? So often!

Please watch my video. It’s about Earth Changes, caused by continental drift. Continental Drift – One huge supercontinent, became 2 continents, then 5 (or 6) continents, and then? Continental drift is an Earth’s nature cycles, extreme greenhouse gas emission makes climate change move faster.
