Follow Your Dog on Twitter with Puppy Tweets!
Do you remember the Friend A Gorilla program that was started last year? No? Well, it allowed people to friend and follow the every day lives of mountain gorillas via Twitter.
Now, toy giant Mattel is taking up the reigns, except their latest project is going straight to the dogs. Mattel is planning to release Puppy Tweets—a plastic collar tag equipped with sound and motion sensors that can connect to your computer through wireless technology.
Why, exactly, are they doing this? Well, many people the world over love animals. They love their own furry companions and even other peoples. Many people around the world also love (and/or obsessively use) Twitter. Mattel is simply capitalizing on both ideas by allowing people to create a Twitter account for their animal friend and stay updated with the animal’s activities, day or night.
The specially equipped collar tag and system is capable of generating prerecorded tweets based on what the animal does throughout the day. For example, if your loveable pup is feeling particularly lazy one day, you may see a tweet that says “Some days it feels like my paw is permanently on the snooze button!” These prerecorded tweets are transmitted to the computer via the wireless connection.
The only down side is, some animals may suffer from too much exposure to wireless technology—which will obviously be a problem if they have a wireless transmitter hanging around their neck 24/7. It’s uncertain which animals are or will be particularly affected by this issue though, or how much.
Puppy Tweets is expected to hit the sales floors this fall, with a starting price of $29.99 (USD).
