You may be a person who lives the green lifestyle. You may recycle, buy organic and locally, and use a form of renewable energy source. You’ll only buy products that are natural and not tested on animals and you only use a car or public transportation if you absolutely have to—any other time you’ll walk or bike. The thing is, how do you convince others to do the same?
Well, if people need an incentive to start making the switch to a greener lifestyle, you can send them straight over to EarthAid.net. This website has set up what may be the first program of its kind: they will pay you for saving energy.
Basically, how it works is they will monitor your electric, gas and water utilities for a year in order to collect information for your base year. After that, the more you implement energy saving techniques, the more likely you’ll be rewarded. For every kilowatt hour you save, you will earn points. These points can be redeemed at local places, ranging from organic food stores to natural spas to restaurants and even dog groomers; along with many, many other options.
EarthAid.net also has a voluntary carbon market available. You do not have to take part in this, but if you do, the energy you save for a year will be counted as carbon credits. These credits can then be sold to anyone else participating in the voluntary carbon market, ranging from individuals to fortune 500 companies.
Check out the site to find out how you (or others) can save energy, save the earth, and earn rewards while doing it!
