Congress Struggles with Green Bills, but not with Green Transportation

Lately, the US Congress has been having a number of problems agreeing on which bill to pass, or which direction to go with the whole climate change issue (among others). But at least they are able to agree on one simple thing: eco-friendly transportation.

Proterra and Altair Nanotechnologies have partnered up to bring an electric bus to Washington D.C. The bus gives off zero emissions and charges rather quickly, and it is this bus those in congress have chosen to ride to their proceedings. Altair hopes to get these buses up and running in other cities soon, as well.

Apart from being electric and producing zero emissions, the bus has an MPG equivalent of “18 and 29 miles per gallon diesel fuel equivalent fully loaded with 68 passengers—500% better than a diesel bus”. As for how fast it can charge: a complete recharge takes only 5 to 10 minutes.

For more information on the electric bus, check out what Autoblog Green has to say about it.

There used to be electric trams/trolley systems in many U.S. cities L.A. and D.C. spring to mind) and they were popular and worked very well. Thank GM and the oil industry for forcing them out.
