Corporate giant, Apple, withdrew its membership from the US Chamber of Commerce recently because they are in disagreement with the group’s stance on environment-related issues. In question is the chamber’s use of funds to oppose climate change legislation particularly on regulating greenhouse gases.
Most progressive businesses know emissions cuts are inevitable and are gearing up to help lead the global economy to a prosperous, low-carbon future. Although many member companies within the Chamber of Commerce already expressed their support for legislation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the significant amount of money they contribute annually is being used to lobby for the exact opposite.
It’s high time to change the chamber’s policies on the environment, and who else is in better position to initiate these changes but the members themselves. Read the full article here

Bolivia has been hosting an international summit, named the World People’s Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth, in the city of Cochabamba. The talks began on the 19th and finish today. From a report by the Environmental News Service: More than 20,000 indigenous, environmental and civil society delegates from 129 countries were in attendance as President Morales welcomed them to the conference at a soccer stadium in the village of Tiquipaya on the outskirts of the city of...
New U.S. study reveals: ALL fish in the U.S. Streams have Mercury in Them
A new U.S. federal study of mercury contamination released this month found the highly toxic substance in EVERY fish tested at nearly 300 streams across the U.S. The study, undertaken by the U.S. Geological Survey, is the most comprehensive look to date at mercury in the American streams. Lake Erie to Have First US Offshore Wind Farm, Not Cape Cod
The US is planning to build its first freshwater offshore wind farm and the location of choice is Lake Erie. Many of you may think: “Aren’t they already planning to build an offshore wind farm near Cape Cod?”—well, yes, they are and technically that one would have been the first. However, the Lake Erie Energy Development Corp recently signed a deal to buy 5 of GE’s 4-megawatt offshore wind turbines; while the Cape Cod project is expected to be much...
119 Killed, Thousands Homeless from Indian Tornado; Victims had No Warning
A rare event happened in India yesterday. A tornado—with winds in excess of 100 mph (160 kph)—tore through the northeastern part of the country, injuring hundreds and leaving thousands homeless. At least 119 people were killed during the storm. Rescue workers have been busy distributing rice, dried fruit, and water to the cyclone victims. Tarpaulins were also passed out to the people who lost their homes for building temporary shelters. Hundreds of uprooted trees and electricity poles have also been...
Save The World, Become A Zombie!
Zombies could easily become the next mascot for a green lifestyle. Not only do they travel by foot, rather than using energy consuming, pollution creating vehicles; they also are prime examples of living a reuse-driven lifestyle. People are starting to see the good potential in zombies (much like the end of “Shaun of the Dead”), and are lining up across the world to join the ranks of these lumbering undead. Zombie Walks are becoming the latest concept for fighting against climate...
Living Planet Report 2012: Global environmental failure?
Ready for some doom and gloom, alarmist and generally pessimistic news that will either make you want to not care at all (the current favorite option) or join the Dark Mountain Project? Talking about the environment and pretending to be eco-friendly by wearing a ‘Kiss me, I’m Green’ button has apparently not saved the Earth from going to Hell in a proverbial hand basket. Ready for some shocking, but (honestly) to be expected, figures from the new ‘Living Planet’ report compiled...
Airblade greenest way to dry your hands
This is not an ad for a sleek new hand dryer. Probably no one reading this website is in the market for the newest, most eco-friendly public restroom hand drying technology on the market. But according to a new report from MIT on the environmental impact of different methods of hand drying, the Dyson Airblade (you know you love it, anyway) comes tops in all categories; global warming potential, human health, ecosystem quality, cumulative energy demand, water consumption and land occupation....
Air Pollution May Cause Headaches
Have you ever had a terrible headache for no apparent reason? Believe it or not, it could be from air pollution. Considering the damage air pollution already does to the environment and people’s health, I wouldn’t be surprised. A study conducted in the Santiago Province of Chile found that more people went to the hospital for headache problems when there were higher air pollution readings. The area itself is surrounded by Coastal and Andes mountains and as such, prone to air...
How to keep drivers Safer and cities Happier
City driving is frustrating to put it simply; stop and go traffic every other block, pedestrians walking in front of cars without regard for safety, even cars weaving in and out of lanes as if they own the road. These annoyances can turn into increased stress for drivers on the road today and a major factor in causing that stress might just be the city they’re driving in. Part of the issue with added stress while driving is found within the...
