Eco-travel and Tourism: Getaways for Any Time of the Year

With the seasons changing and weather becoming colder, people may be looking for that last vacation getaway for the year; or if you’re a snowbird, looking for where you’ll be spending the next several months. Going on vacation is no reason to stop “living green” or doing your part to help the environment. Here are a few rather unique hotels that specialize in eco-travel and tourism.

Ariau Amazon Towers Hotel
Whoever said living in trees was for the birds never stayed at Ariau Amazon Towers. Located near Manaus, Brazil, this hotel is the largest tree house complex in the Amazon Rainforest. Completely built at canopy level, the towers are linked by 4 miles of wooden catwalks. With a bar like an eagle’s nest, panoramic view of the rainforest and Rio Negro River, and monkeys, macaws and sloths all over the place, this hotel would provide a very interesting experience. In fact, it is said that the idea for the hotel came from none other than Jacques Cousteau.

Baumhaus Hotel
If a rainforest paradise is not your idea of a fun holiday, then how about checking out these German child-like tree houses. The tree houses are rustic and odd in shape, the windows are oddly shaped; even the beds are oddly shaped. Each tree house has their own balcony and theme according to local fairytales and myths. This would be a great place to visit if you have children or want to get in touch with your own inner child. I should warn you of one thing though: it would help greatly if you are rather fluent in German or Polish; their website does not come in English.

Magic Mountain Hotel
This Chile based hotel doubles as a private nature reserve and ecotourism project. Located northeast of the Mocho-Choshuenco volcano, this mountain-shaped hotel was built with inspiration from the story by the same name. It even comes with its own personal waterfall cascading from the roof of the hotel. Activities here include ski trips, checking out the Huilo Huilo Reserve, and a trip down the longest zip line system in South America!

This is but a short list of the eco-hotels available throughout the world. Wherever you decide to go for your next vacation, be sure to do it the eco-way and never stop “living green”.

Neat hotels! As far as the environment is concerned it is probably best that travel and taking holidays in far off places become more exclusive and expensive like they used to be. This is not egalitarian, but whatever, some things have to take priority. Also great that a holiday can be “green” instead of harmful to these ecosystems.
