Classic Car Makeover: The MGB-EV
Posted by Murielle in Science & Technology, 15 Sep 2009

When he first bought the 1972 MGB roadster back in 1984 in order to restore it, Dr. Roger Dougal probably never thought it would take more than 20 years before he actually started his project. The University of South Carolina Engineering Professor handed the car over to his students as a class project. They began rebuilding the classic car, but not just replacing the old engine, but giving it new life as an electric car. The students, some of who have done the work on a voluntary basis, devoted their time and about $10,000 of their own money to make the various changes, such as replacing the fuel combustion engine with an AC motor. The students continue to work on completing the project, hoping to compete upcoming Sports Car Club of America autocross races. Read the full article here

Why commercial solar could save UK businesses
Solar power has been around for decades, but is still rarely seen in commercial settings in the UK. The tide may be about to turn as the economic climate continues to look challenging for most businesses, requiring considerable cost saving measures and alternative revenue streams to keep many companies viable. Commercial solar could be the answer for many small to large business owners to curtail expenditure and even turn additional profit from producing electricity. The Advantages of Commercial Solar For UK...
Scientists: Space junk is now a major problem
Not content to pollute the air, soil, lakes and oceans, humanity has now fouled up space to the point that it’s become a serious problem. Can you believe that? Apparently we’ve launched so much stuff into orbit that it’s making space travel dangerous. Yes, as weird, stupid and admittedly cool as that sounds, it’s true. But why is that it when the stuff of science fiction novels happens for real it’s always boring? I mean the reality of it is just...
Mountain Gorillas Are Great Apes!
They’re big, they’re vegetarian and they’re very much like us. Except they mind their own business. Yet political conflict, the bush meat trade and human thirst for wealth and natural resources are wiping out these gentle, majestic primates. Check out this documentary on mountain gorillas by VBS. The Vice Guide to Travel: Gorillas in the Midst VBS travels to Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo where the mountain gorillas – 200 of the earth’s last 720 — are...
England faces long-term drought “disaster”
Dry weather in much of England is threatening to devastate farming and wildlife, and could extend past next Christmas. Parts of England have entered official drought status, with water rationing measures in place. Soils are so dried out that recent rains did little to help conditions. This may sound like strange weather in a country known for rain rather than droughts, especially in April, but the dangers are all too real. Helen Vale, national drought coordinator at the Environment Agency is quoted in...
Updates on storm fallout in the U.K. – extensive damage to infrastructure, massive insurance claims, more rain to come
The full repercussions of the flooding in the county of Cumbria in the North West England, the result of the heavy rains which hit the area on Thursday and Friday, are now coming to light. According to a BBC News report from today (November 23rd) 'All properties in Cockermouth are being checked by engineers before people can enter and elsewhere in Cumbria at least 25 roads and 16 bridges remain closed.' Flood warnings persist in much of the country and...
Humans Continue Their Abusive Relationship with the Earth
Humans are more wasteful than originally thought. The Global Footprint Network recently put out a report stating that humans use resources equivalent to 1 ½ Earths to meet their needs, and Americans are the worst of all. If the entire world lived as recklessly as those in the US, humans would require 5 Earths to produce the resources everyone needs. “We are demanding nature’s services—using resources and creating CO2 emissions—at a rate 44% faster than what nature can regenerate and reabsorb. That...
How to keep drivers Safer and cities Happier
City driving is frustrating to put it simply; stop and go traffic every other block, pedestrians walking in front of cars without regard for safety, even cars weaving in and out of lanes as if they own the road. These annoyances can turn into increased stress for drivers on the road today and a major factor in causing that stress might just be the city they’re driving in. Part of the issue with added stress while driving is found within the...
Fukushima report: Government bungling put public at risk
An independent report on the level 7 nuclear incident at Fukushima, Japan, following the tsunami on March 11, 2011, reveals bad communication between authorities and irresponsible behavior by Japanese government officials. The report was carried out by the Rebuild Japan Initiative Foundation, who interviewed some 300 politicians, bureaucrats and workers who were involved in the Fukushima disaster. Lies about the level of risk, a lack of information provided to the public and general incompetence reflect poorly on Japan’s government, energy industry and...
Update: Sea Shepherd Charges Japan with Piracy and Prepares for Further Legal Action
Piracy on the high seas is something you usually hear about happening with Somalians these days, or it’s turned into an epic Disney trilogy. Now it’s taken on another meaning through Whale Wars. The Sea Shepherd crew is now looking into placing criminal charges against the Japanese whalers for the destruction of their ship, the Ady Gil. The damage to the Ady Gil caused the ship to completely sink within days of the incident. Potential charges that may be filed against...
Sting still campaigning to save Amazon rainforests
Back in the 80s Sting got a bit of stick for "bro-ing down" with Amazon Indians in colorful headdresses. Well Sting is back in the news for yet again trying to protect Brazil's rainforest lands and their inhabitants from developers. And he's the victim of criticism again – for both the large carbon footprint of his tours and for seeking publicity for his career. Is he doing something good in order to create publicity, even if he benefits from it...

As it’s very difficult to collect the old car parts of the perfect make and the models. I like the idea of to convert it in to the electric vehicle without changing it’s outside look. It gives the feel of classic old car with all new features. The effort is must be appreciated.
