Solar Roadways Gains Ground

The Solar Road Panels will soon become a reality in the United States. The Department of Transportation has recently given the company Solar Roadways $100,000 to create a prototype of the project. This technology uses LED lights embedded in the roads to do just about anything – communicate with cars and warn them about detours ahead, detect wildlife on the highways, heat up the roads to melt ice and prevent icing and even charge electric cars while they are on the road, making long-distance trips for such cars possible. It is estimated that about 5 billion 1 square foot panels are needed to cover all the roads in the United States, but should this be achieved, it can produce about 3x the amount of energy the entire country needs.
