Ford together with its partners is testing a first in the car industry: vehicle-to-electric grid communications and control systems. These systems should enable electric vehicles to interface with the grid for optimal recharging. Included in the communications and control systems is the ability to program when to recharge the vehicle, for how long and at what utility rate. In 2010 Ford is to introduce a pure battery electric Transit Connect commercial van, alongside with a battery electric Focus compact car in 2011, and a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle and next-generation hybrid electric vehicle in 2012. Ford’s aim is to eventually equip all of it’s 21 fleet plug-in hybrid Escapes with the vehicle-to-grid communications technology. Read the full article here
